⚠ Before you post

  • Formatted text is not searchable on LinkedIn — don't format your keywords

  • Not readable by screen readers — use sparingly

Frequently asked questions

How does the LinkedIn text formatter work?

LinkedIn doesn't support native bold or italic text. This tool converts your text into Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric characters that visually look like formatted text. When you paste them into LinkedIn, they display as bold or italic on every modern device.

Is the formatted text searchable on LinkedIn?

No. Unicode-converted text is not indexed by LinkedIn's internal search engine. Use formatting only for visual emphasis — headings, key phrases, and hooks — not for keywords you want to rank for inside LinkedIn search.

Does it work on mobile LinkedIn?

Yes. Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric characters render correctly on all modern iOS and Android devices. Use the Mobile preview tab to check how your post looks before you publish.

Why does my character count seem higher than expected?

LinkedIn counts Unicode supplementary-plane characters as 2 characters each because they use UTF-16 surrogate pairs internally. Bold or italic characters all live in this range. Our counter mirrors LinkedIn's exact counting logic, so what you see here matches LinkedIn.

Can I use this for my LinkedIn profile — not just posts?

Yes. The formatter works for your About section, headline, job description, Education section, and posts. Simply paste the copied text directly into any LinkedIn text field.

Can I format only part of my text?

Yes — this is the key feature that most other tools are missing. Select a portion of text in the editor first, then click a style. Only the selected text will be formatted. If you click a style without any selection, the entire text is formatted.

Where is LinkedIn's built-in text formatter?

LinkedIn doesn't have a built-in text formatter. The platform intentionally limits native formatting to keep the feed professional. The only way to add bold or italic text is by using a third-party Unicode tool like this one.

Are there any accessibility concerns?

Yes — screen readers cannot correctly interpret Unicode mathematical characters. They read each character by its Unicode name (e.g. "mathematical bold capital A") instead of the intended letter. Use formatted text sparingly, and consider your audience.

Will the formatted text display correctly on all devices?

On all modern devices (iOS 13+, Android 8+, Windows 10+, macOS 10.14+), yes. On very old devices or older OS versions, users may see placeholder squares instead of styled characters. This affects a small minority of LinkedIn users.

Is this tool completely free?

Yes, completely free with no signup, no account, and no usage limits. All formatting happens locally in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
