Where is the LinkedIn text formatter?

Short answer

LinkedIn doesn't have a built-in text formatter. There is no bold, italic, or font button inside the LinkedIn editor. To format your text, you need to use an external tool like this one — paste the formatted text into LinkedIn afterwards.

Why LinkedIn doesn't have a text formatter

LinkedIn has deliberately kept its post editor minimal since the platform launched. The reasoning is consistent with LinkedIn's professional positioning: rich text formatting could make the feed look inconsistent and less professional.

Unlike Twitter/X (which also lacks native formatting) or Facebook (which has limited bold support in groups), LinkedIn has shown no public plans to add a native text formatter.

How the workaround works

The Unicode standard includes a block of characters that look like bold, italic, and other styled versions of normal letters. When you type hello and convert it to bold Unicode, it becomes 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 — a completely different set of characters that just happen to look bold.

Because they are real characters (not HTML or CSS), they paste into LinkedIn and display correctly on all modern devices, including the iOS and Android apps.

What you can and can't do

✓ You can

  • Bold, italic, script, gothic, monospace text
  • Apply to posts, profiles, headlines, about
  • Mix styles in the same post
  • Use in LinkedIn comments

✗ You can't

  • Make formatted text searchable on LinkedIn
  • Use underline reliably (renders inconsistently)
  • Format text directly inside the LinkedIn editor
